Why should you invest in Solar Energy?

Are you tired of paying your high electric bills per month? Are you afraid of using your household appliances because you know its gonna generate more costs for you monthly? Does your house have a roof space without a use? Then investing into solar might just be the right thing for you!

Here are some of the reasons why you should invest in solar today:

1. Unlimited Free Energy - The best thing about solar energy is that its always there! It doesn't run out. If you have the means to harness it then its yours for free! The sun will not charge you for its energy! Once you set up a Solar Power System you don' have to pay anymore additional costs for your electricity!

2. Philippine Climate - Lets face it, Philippines is a hot place! According to climatemps, Philippines receives an average of 2105 daylight hours per year! That's a lot of potential and free energy wasted if we don't harness it using solar panels.

3. Environmental friendly - Once a solar PV system is installed it just sits there in your roof. It doesn't produce any noise or smoke pollution. The use of solar energy on our daily lives lessens our dependency on fossil fuels thus helping us promote the health of our environment.

4. Power Rate Hike Immunity - The price rate of electric power in the Philippines will most certainly increase in the coming years and you basically don't have a say over it. Converting to solar can help you decrease your dependency to your power provider. Why? because you are the one generating your own electricity for your own use. That lessens your electric generation from them as well as the added costs they charge you for their distribution. The best part about solar is that if you want, you can totally be independent from the power grid and live an electric bill free life!

5. Very Efficient - Due to its constant state solar technology is rated to last for over 25 years and more! There are not much losses in its system because there are no moving parts. High quality panels are rated to be still in 80% efficiency after 25 years.

6. Increase Value for Establishments - If you install a Solar PV system on your establishment it can add up to your asking price and help you sell it faster than average properties without solar installation. Value added depends on the size of installation.

7. Flexible - Solar PV systems can be designed/redesigned to suit your needs. You want your whole system to benefit from solar but are still connected to the grid? You want to be fully independent from the grid? You want both? You just want to connect it to your chosen appliances? You want to sell your excess electricity to your power provider? Or you just want to use your electricity for your own? It can be done!

8. Net Metering - Under the Republic Act no. 9513 power providers are required to enter in net-metering agreements with the end users. It allows end users to install a solar PV system not exceeding 100 KW capacity so that they can generate electricity for their own use. Any excess electricity that they generate will automatically go back to the grid. The power provider then gives a peso credit for every excess electricity they have received equal to the power providers generation price excluding added adjustments on generation. The credit earned by the end user is deducted to his/her bill the following month.

Here are some of the disadvantages in terms of investing in solar technology here in the Philippines today:

1. Initial Cost - With such opportunity comes a price to pay. Investing in solar technology today comes with high initial cost. A typical system will give an average of 4-8 years of R.O.I. The good news is you only have to pay once, after your R.O.I its all free energy.

2. Location - Your establishment might be surrounded by large buildings or shades. This might shorten the potential daylight hours received by your solar PV system installation.

3. Night Time & Cloudy Days - Solar PV systems are useless in night time hours and produce less on cloudy days.

4. Space - The more your requirement increases the more solar panels uses up a lot of space.

5. Fake and Low Quality Threats - In the recent outbreak of solar technology in the Philippines comes innumerable low quality products and services circulating around the market. Be aware or your investment will turn a hope into a nightmare.

6. Batteries - If you want to be completely independent you are gonna have to use batteries. The battery technology as of today is still low. It generally last 2-3 years and degrades fast depending on its use. Batteries don’t only costs a lot but also comes with high maintenance, but if your system is connected to the grid you don't need to worry about batteries.
